Coronaviruses are a family of different viruses that can cause disease in humans and animals. Some of the respiratory diseases caused by different coronaviruses include the common cold, SARS, MERS and COVID-19 (World Health Organisation).



What is COVID-19?

Covid-19 (also known as coronavirus disease, and often referred to in the media and general conversation as coronavirus) is the respiratory infection currently circulating in many countries around the world. It is caused by a new coronavirus identified in China in late 2019 (World Health Organisation).

Murrumbidgee Local Health District

MLHD has established Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing clinics in Griffith, Wagga Wagga, Cootamundra, Deniliquin and Tumut.

  • Call HealthDirect 1800 022 222, where a nurse will triage them over the phone and advise as needed or

  • Call the Murrumbidgee COVID-19 Hotline 1800 831 099, where patients will be triaged and if testing is warranted, will be booked into an appointment based on location

  • Contact your GP to arrange an appointment and let them know in advance if you have symptoms

The Australian Red Cross has received Government funding specifically to support people who are on temporary visas with a small one-off emergency relief payment.

The support is being offered to people who:

  • are not Australian citizens or permanent residents; and

  • are not eligible for State or Territory funds for temporary visa holders (except those delivered by Red Cross); and

  • have no income or savings and no access to other support.
